The Abarths After Carlo Abarth (Troisième Edition)
60.00 €

THE 99 SCORPION’S PROJECTS

Engineer Sergio Limone - who worked for the Abarth’s technical department from 1972 to 2005 - and Luca Gastaldi – automotive and classic cars journalist - explain all the projects born in the Scorpion workshop in more than thirty years, so from the 1971 when the Fiat Group acquired the factory.

A “notebook” in lieu of a book, because books have a different narrative style, the authors intention is to highlight the work of many people during the period from 1972 to 2005 (33 years of competition cars and other projects) and the achievements, led by a group of technicians whose roots went back to the Abarth of the 1960s.

The Abarth company has changed hands many times over, has been merged and transformed, but its technical strengths have always remained at the forefront, as a common thread. The Company setup changed several times, following various mergers involving Lancia, Fiat and Alfa Romeo.

The first “marriage” occurred in 1972, when the rally division of Fiat was merged into the recently acquired Abarth operation. In the late 1970s, Lancia Corse was also moved to the Corso Marche facilities, and in the late 1980s a single centre was created, with Abarth and Alfa Romeo technicians working on the competition models.

The Abarth logo was retained, albeit in the background, throughout the 1990s, when racing operations were managed by Fiat Auto Corse. On 1 July 2001, the company became NTechnology, an organisation external to, but controlled by Fiat, and this remained in operation till the end of 2005. At that point, the Abarth logo made its great comeback to centre stage.

This third edition of the book - expanded and renewed, but always signed by engineer Sergio Limone and journalist Luca Gastaldi - reveals to the enthusiasts the 99 projects that were developed in those years: on the one hand, the most famous that have conquered great international successes we all know (just mention the Fiats 124 and 131 Abarth Rally, Lancia Rally "037", Delta S4 and Delta Integrale, up to the Alfa Romeo 155 and 156), on the other one, the projects in the background or even completely unknown. Everyone, however, united by the peerless technical know-how that sank its roots in the Abarth of the Sixties.
